Partner Visa (Subclasses 309 & 100 / 820 & 801)

This visa lets the spouse or partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia. You apply once for both temporary and permanent visas, and permanent residency is assessed after 2 years.

Be married or in a de facto relationship with an eligible partner

Be in a genuine and continuing relationship

Applicants in de facto relationships must be 18 or older when they apply.

Be mutually committed to a shared life

Meet health and character requirements

Live together or not live permanently apart

Have the same sponsor throughout

If you are in Australia and the holder of or your last substantive visa was one of the following, you must have held that visa for at least three years before you can apply:

Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional (Provisional)) visa or Subclass 494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional)) visa.
